John and Doug Deterding started business as a building contractor full time in 1978. During the fall and winter of 1978 the first woodburning stoves were sold during the slow times in the construction business. For six years we operated from our "country location" at our homes south of Riverdale, Nebraska.
In the late summer and fall of 1984, we opened our first retail store in Kearney at 825 East 25th Street, which had formerly been an A & W Restaurant.
In the late summer of 1985, Classic Spa & Tub was purchased as an existing corporation to diversify the business and help to facilitate a more year around business.
In October of 1986 we purchased our current Kearney retail location on 2nd Ave. and 22nd street. This facility and its visibility to Kearney's busy traffic patterns allowed continued growth.
In 1990, we opened our Eagle Window and lighting store located at 2nd Avenue and 21st Street. Deterding expanded its retail store presence to 3302 W, Capital, Grand Island.
We have continued to expand our business by providing excellent customer service and fine retail products from these multiple locations.
The Deterdings Companies, which include Classic Pool & Spa and Deterding Stoves & Fireplaces, are based on quality products and quality service. Deterdings focus is on offering all price ranges of products sold from a Specialty Retailer perspective, products not offered in the discount "one size fits all" mentality.
Our goal is to offer products that give the homeowner a satisfaction of ownership that lasts for years and years. Products that give the foundational basis for a "family oasis" that focuses on the unique personality of that family and their core values.
